President of Tanzania, John Magufuli joined other Tanzanians outside his resident to sweep the streets and clear waste, see photos below.

Nicknamed ‘The Bulldozer’, the 56-year-old came into power Octobe after a keenly contested election. Former Nigerian President. Good luck Jonathan led the Commonwealth monitoring group to that election. He actually resumed power October this year on his birthday!

President Magufuli cancelled Tanzania independence day celebrations and ordered the clean-up.
He was joined by dozens of fishermen from a market outside the palace and numerous others, as he shovelled leaves and clean waste bins.

“Let us work together to keep our country, cities, homes and workplaces clean, safe and healthy,” he told said to the crowd.

Thousands of people are struggling with Cholera attack in the country and the president cancelled the Independence Day celebration saying it would be shameful” when people are dying of cholera.

Jakaya Kikwete, the former president who stepped down said “I am happy with this exercise. Let us give our president full support n our campaign to fight cholera and other communicable diseases

“I am very happy with measures he is taking to curb inefficiency, tax evasion and other malpractices in public offices, I am very proud of him. ”

A Tanzanian was quoted by AFP as saying “Tanzania has changed. This is a new Tanzania.”
