Umana Appeal Akwa Ibom Governorship Tribunal’s Judgment

The All Progressive Candidate for the recently conducted Akwa Ibom State Governorship election, Umana Okon Umana and the All Progressive Congress have filled Appeal challenging challenging the judgment of the state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on the recently concluded election.

Umana Umana and the describe the decision of the tribunal to cancel election in 18 out of 31 local Government as ‘miscarriage of justice and turning upside down, the head of the natural justice’.

They argued that Section 179(2)(b) of the Nigerian Constitution, which requires that a candidate vying for the office of the Governor would be declared winner if he has not less than one quarter of the votes cast at the election in each of at least two-thirds of the local government areas, has been breached by nullifying election in 18 local Government.

They asked the appellate court to nullify the entire election, remove Governor Udom Emmanuel from Office and order for a fresh election
