The popular Sabon-Gari market in Kano, Kano state, was hit by a fire incident very early on Saturday morning.
According to a witness who spoke with TheCable, the fire, which has been raging for hours, did not spare a bank located inside the market.
NAN also quoted a witness as saying the fire started around 12:30am, razing the entire footwear section of the market.
When contacted, Mustapha Rulwan, director of the state fire service, confirmed the tragedy, saying rescue workers were still trying to salvage the situation.
“Our men are still trying to put out the fire,” he said. “As I am talking to you now, we are in the market.”
This is the second time in five months that the Sabon-Gari market has been gutted by fire.
As of 10:30am when this story was filed, men of the Kano state fire service were still battling to put out the inferno.
