Police in the New Juaben municipality in the Eastern region of Ghana have launched a manhunt for a man, Kwaku Manu, for butchering a young woman Friday dawn for refusing to have sex with him.
The incident occurred at Agyeiwaa Lodge, a community in Koforidua at around 1am.
The suspect believed to be a 35-year-old destitute, was accommodated by the mother of the victim by providing him free accommodation for about eight months.
Manu, who is a known drunkard is alleged to have been proposing and demanding sex from the victim in recent days.
Manu is currently on the run.
A family member of the victim, in an interview with Starr News said he heard the victim screaming for help from her room so he rushed to the scene only to see Manu inflicting cutlass wounds on the victim.
He added that the suspect upon seeing him took to his heels.
He narrated that the suspect requested to have sex with the victim but she refused which infuriated Manu.
A tenant told Starr News’ Eastern regional correspondent Kojo Ansah that Manu was seen sharpening the cutlass he used in committing the act on Thursday but when queried he threatened to butcher the tenant.
The victim has been rushed to the Koforidua government hospital for treatment.
