The Federal government says 72 people have so far died in a Lassa fever outbreak since August and 212 are suffering from the disease according to BBC Africa.
Health Minister Isaac Adewole warned that unless adequate measures were quickly put in place, the disease could spread to other parts of the country.
So far the disease has been reported in 17 out of the 36 states in the country.
It is transmitted to humans from rodents that harbour the virus. The most common complication of the virus is deafness.
