The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has released the new power tariff regime. The new regime shows an increase in charges for customers across the country. The commission said the fixed electricity charges for all classes of consumers has been removed and they will only pay for what they consume.
The NERC confirmed the new regime on Monday and said the increase would take effect from the next billing period. The customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company would pay N9.60 more than their usual rates while the residential customers in Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution will pay an increase of N10 and N8 respectively. Kaduna and Benin consumers face N11.05 and N9.26 respectively.
Recall that the House of Representatives had ordered the NERC to terminate plans to increase electricity tariff.
